The Museum of Archaeology and Religious Art "Father Gheorghe Petre - Govora" was established in 1974, featuring archaeological pieces, icons, and old books collected by the figure after whom it is named. Father Gheorghe Petre was a significant personality in the region, known for his cultural and religious work, and he also conducted numerous archaeological excavations in Vâlcea County in collaboration with several specialists.

The museum consists of four rooms, three of which are dedicated to archaeology, while the fourth houses religious collections. In the hallway, paintings by local artist Stan Hermeneanu are displayed. The archaeological exhibition is rich and diverse, including, among other items, mammoth and bear fossils from the pre-glacial and glacial periods, polished and perforated stones indicating early stone working in the Neolithic period, and flint blades typical to the Eneolithic Copper Age.

The collection is completed by a ritual object used for offerings in the early Iron Age, clay vessels, and stone tools. From the Geto-Dacian culture, the exhibition highlights a treasure of coins, jewelry items, and painted ceramics.

The final room brings together Christian art objects such as hand and table crosses, 17th -19th century icons painted on wood and glass, as well as old religious books printed in Romanian using the Cyrillic alphabet. Two examples, “Cazania lui Varlaam” printed at Iași in 1643 and “Pravila Mare” (1652), reflect both the value of the collection and the tradition of priests and the Orthodox Church in educating the community. Cazania lui Varlaam tipărită la Iași în 1643 sau Pravila Mare (1652) fiind doar două exemple care reflectă atât valoarea colecției, cât și tradiția erudită a preoților și a bisericii ortodoxe în educația comunității.
