The gorges and the waterfalls are other points of interest in Vâlcea County that are attracting more and more nature and adventure enthusiasts due to their impressive landscapes and diverse opportunities for hiking, photography, and exploration.
The most well-known gorge in the county is undoubtedly the Olt Valley, one of the most spectacular in the entire country. It winds its way between the Cozia, Căpățânii, Lotru, and Făgăraș Mountains, creating a remarkable landscape dominated by rocky cliffs. Although much shorter in length, just a little over 1 km, the Bistrița Gorge stands out with its steep walls, over 200 meters high in some places, partially covered with vegetation typical of limestone areas, forming the narrowest limestone gorge in the country.
Vâlcea County is also well represented in terms of waterfalls, which are true attractions for its visitors. Formed by the waters of the Lotrișor River, the waterfall of the same name is nearly 30 meters high. Although it is not a natural waterfall, being the result of river diversion works, its beauty and perfect integration into the landscape make it one of the most popular in the area.
Hidden in the heart of the Căpățânii Mountains, Scoruș Waterfall is somewhat harder to access, but this only adds to its wild charm. Along with its unique natural setting, the waterfall also impresses with its height of approximately 100 meters, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in Romania.
